Blue Cohosh (Caulophyllum thalictroides)

Caulophyllum thalictroides occurs in eastern North America east of the Mississippi River, e.g., from southern Manitoba to Nova Scotia, and south to Arkansas, northern Georgia and South Carolina. It grows in rich soils in deciduous forests; 0-1,200 m. Forb, up to 90 cm in height. Leaves compound, bluish-green, with trifoliate leaflets. Flowers are radially symmetrical with 6 yellowish-green or purple sepals and 6 yellow stamens, in clusters of 5-20. Fruit is berry-like, purple-blue; poisonous.
