The Libellulidae are the largest dragonfly family (> 1,000 species) with nearly worldwide distribution. Some taxonomists include the Corduliidae and Macromiidae in the Libellulidae. This family contains many familiar dragonflies, including skimmers, whitetails, darters, and meadowhawks.
