Blue-spotted Salamander (Ambystoma laterale)

Blue-spotted Salamander readily hybridizes with a closely related Jefferson Salamander (Ambystoma jeffersonianum), and hybrids are often indistinguishable from Blue-spotted and Jefferson salamanders. However, all hybrids are unisexual, and the salamander shown on this page (except the photo at the bottom right) was a male, and thus likely a pure Blue-spotted Salamander.
